Making Work Visible: Exposing Time Theft to Optimize Work & flow

The book focuses on the kanban board to visualize and expose tasks so we can put a limit in our Work-In-Progress.

Most of the time, we overload our queue because we can’t determine the proper size of our current workload.

We don’t have visible metrics where we are at.

Having a lot of work-in-progress doesn’t mean we can do a lot in the shortest time. It’s the opposite.

Since we are juggling tasks, we exert more effort in refocusing our attention. Which usually take about 5-15 minutes to get back in a state of flow.

Often times we also become paralyzed with pieces of information that we procrastinate.

Limiting our work-in-progress free ourselves to spend more time on thinking. Which is necessary for finding creative solutions and producing quality results.

That’s being effective.
