How do you keep going?

Procrastination… it’s putting off boring tasks into back burner even though we know those boring tasks will bite us off in the ass in the future, probably next week or a day in two.

Worst is those tasks that we thought boring are really the critical piece that we should be finishing off as soon as possible.

But hey, we resolve to what is easy - The path with least resistance. Simply put, we are wired to seek happiness - and that search spill over into our work. I’m not saying work is a curse. It can be a source of joy once you find the right amount for you.

Another reason why we procrastinate is because we thought the task is bigger than us or that our skills doesn’t match the required skills necessary to do the task.

Flow

If our skill doesn’t match the challenge we feel anxious, then comes procrastination. If we think the challenge is simple that any idiot can do we feel bored, then comes procrastination too.

But when we are in the flow - we feel good about ourself, become productive and put off procrastination.

How then can we keep this nirvana? How can we keep going? This is a timeless advice that I’d shrugged off many times until I understand and been in the depth of procrastination:

  • Divide and Conquer,  if you are given an insurmountable task don’t read the TITLE! Break it. Ask, what things I should do in order to drive this project/task into completion?

  • If you’re skill doesn’t match up with the challenge - either LEARN IT or GAMIFY IT!. If it’s easy make it difficult, put points into it - check it off (I use Todoist for this)

So far this has help me silence the procrastination monkey. How about you guys? How do you keep going?
